Berlioz sat in the music room of the university, playing Ludwig van Beethoven's "Moonlight Sonata, 3rd Movement". In a way, it was the young man’s comfort song. His fingers moved along the keys of the grand piano with perfect precision. One wrong note and he would have to start all over again. He didn’t want to take his hands off the keys to close the music book, so he opted for closing his eyes instead. He knew this piece like the back of his hand - or paw, depending on the form he was in - so it was no big deal.
He still wasn’t used to this world, and admittedly missed France. He hadn’t seen Madam Adelaide, his mother, siblings, or his adoptive father Thomas since ‘landing’ in Spellhaven. In fact, he switched from playing the piano to simply playing a chord the key of G minor repeatedly before getting an idea.
Reaching down into the bag by his feet, Berlioz took out a large spiral notebook and turned to a blank page, writing ‘Berlioz’s Lament in G minor’ at the top. He then experimented with chords and scales before signing the song he and his family had always practice. “If you’re faithful to your daily practicing, you will find your progress is encouraging. Do-mi-so-mi, do-mi-so-mi, fa-la, so it goes, when you do your scales are your arpeggios...”
