Admittedly, some things did happen in the past that affected Maleficent’s view of the human kingdom, and Stefan in particular. One night, after Maleficent had fallen asleep due to a drugged drink, Stefan cut off her wings, bringing them back to his kingdom and his father as a trophy. This is likely what kickstarted her disdain for not only the humans, but the human race.

Maleficent is an evil fairy and the self-proclaimed "Mistress of All Evil" who, after not being invited to Princess Aurora’s christening - a huge event in terms of royal get-togethers - curses the infant to prick her finger on the spindle of a spinning wheel and die before the sun sets on Aurora's sixteenth birthday, though she will be loved by all who know her before the fact. She arries anyway - though uninvited - and, after being told by Merrywether that she wasn't invited because she was unwanted, bestows the aforementioned curse into baby Aurora, proclaiming it is a gift and that she does not wish any ill will towards the royal family. Merryweather, however, is able to weaken it by ensuring that Aurora only falls into a deep sleep upon pricking her finger, which only true love’s kiss can cure.
